I love that I keep reading that this is DESPITE jobs being lost. I imagine that as people are losing jobs, if they live in areas that have a relatively usable transit system - they are looking into driving less, and perhaps even getting rid of one of their cars. Of course ridership is up. Using public transit costs a lot less than car payments, upkeep and insurance.
The trick is that the transit system needs to be robust.
Here in NY's Capital Region - getting around without a car takes considerably more time and energy than bigger cities.
