New York ranks seventh most energy-efficient state
How does your state stack up when it comes to energy efficiency? The nonprofit American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) has just issued its eighth annual State Energy Efficiency Scoreboard, which assesses states based on policies that encourage energy savings, efficiency investments and jobs in the clean energy sector. So you can look it up...
The winner for the third straight year is Massachusetts...
The study also rated cities, finding Boston to be the leader in its efforts to encourage better energy use. Portland, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Washington, Minneapolis, Chicago and Philadelphia round out the top ten.

New York State Sporting License Sales Summary
The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation tracks statistics of the various hunting and fishing licenses offered in New York State. One could go to the main DEC page and search for license sales summary; the information will be the link to the first result.
At the very bottom of the page is a link to Sales by County. When you download a year's report by county - the data goes back to the 2002-2003 season - one will see plus signs (+) in the far left column that, when clicked on, will provide additional info for that particular county.

All About the Super Greenies
From JJ Hill:
Lots of folks are spending lots of money on Green products and services these days. Maybe you or someone you know also has a great idea for the next big Green product. But who exactly are these environmentally conscious consumers that are willing to pay big bucks to “Go Green”?
Scarborough Research, a market research firm, has put together a detailed report entitled All About the Super Greenies. The consumers they profile in this report are “those adults who engage in 10 or more green activities, such as recycling, using rechargeable batteries or re-using grocery store bags”, a number Scarborough estimates as 5% of the adult population in the U.S. The report covers income, media preferences, political affiliations, activities, online habits, and more.
If you need to get a better grasp on just who the Green consumer is, this report is a great start. You may also want to start hanging out at local gardening centers; Scarborough says that 68% of Super Greenies participate in gardening. Time to get your hands dirty!

National Environmental Scorecard
The 2009 National Environmental Scorecard illustrates the extent to which the Obama administration and the 111th Congress began to move our nation towards a new energy future that will reinvigorate our economy, create jobs, make America more energy independent and protect the planet from global warming pollution. In the most sweeping accomplishment, the U.S. House passed the landmark American Clean Energy and Security Act, which marked the first time that comprehensive global warming and clean energy legislation passed either chamber of Congress.
The 2009 Scorecard covers other key issues, such as public lands, water quantity and quality, forest management, offshore drilling, wildlife conservation at home and abroad, chemical security and population.
The New York state delegation as a whole did very well, over 80%. In fact there were only 3 representatives with scores under 86% positive:
Christopher Lee (REP) NY-26 14%
Peter King (REP) NY-3 36%
John McHugh (REP) NY-23 67%

Greendex
In their third annual survey to measure and monitor consumer behaviors that have an impact on the environment, the National Geographic Society and the international polling firm GlobeScan have found that environmentally friendly behavior among consumers in 10 out of 17 countries has increased over the past year. The survey results show that environmentally friendly consumer behavior, as measured by the Greendex, has now increased from 2008 levels in all but one of the 14 countries polled in both 2008 and 2010. By environmentally friendly consumer behavior, we mean people’s transportation patterns, household energy and resource use, consumption of food and everyday consumer goods, and what consumers are doing to minimize the impact these activities have on the environment.
Greendex 2010: Consumer Choice and the Environment — A Worldwide Tracking Survey is a comprehensive measure of consumer behavior in 65 areas relating to housing, transportation, food and consumer goods. Greendex 2010 ranks average consumers in 17 countries according to the environmental impact of their consumption patterns and is the only survey of its kind.
As in 2008, the top-scoring consumers of 2010 are in the developing economies of India, Brazil, China, in descending order. American consumers’ behavior still ranks as the least sustainable of all countries surveyed since the inception of the survey three years ago, followed by Canadian, French and British consumers. Consumers in emerging economies continue to round out the top tier of the Greendex ranking, while the six lowest scores were all earned by consumers in industrialized countries.

3 Minute Ad Age
If you know people who care about marketing trends, they might consider spending 180 seconds checking out video news from AdAge every weekday. The June 13 post, for example, noted that as the "green" market tries to promote itself, the notion of "sacrifice" is not loved, that "environmentalism" is polarizing, and "conservationalism" is frumpy. However, the term "sustainability" is embraced better as an idea suggesting responsible consumption.
